It’s hard to imagine that volunteers can visit the Valencia region and leave it more beautiful than they found it, but that is not only possible, it’s practical under the Conservation Program in Valencia, where volunteers works for the protection of the region’s biodiversity and ecosystem. You will help to implement protection and prevention plans that include improvement of water resources, safety against forest fires, reforestation, and conservation of natural habitats and inhabitant species. Volunteers also have the opportunity to learn more about the ecosystem, benefits of preservation, promoting green culture and minimizing the environmental impact of agriculture and tourism and to share their knowledge with the local residents who call this beautiful region home.
Chances are you’ll never forget the Valencia Region’s coastline and it’s unique flora and fauna, nor is mountains and hillsides, rivers, islands, wetlands and beautiful forests. You can visit, enjoy, and return home knowing you did something to preserve its beauty for generations to come.
Arrival and Orientation
Volunteers are greeted at the Valencia Airport and transported to their local accommodations by a Volunteering Solutions representative. This airport is served by some major airlines such as Iberia, Lufthansa, Ryan Air, Air France, Air Berlin and Transavia.
All volunteers will be provided with an orientation session by the local coordinator. These important areas will be addressed: safety concerns, key locations, getting around in Valencia , things to see and do in your spare time, etc. After your orientation is completed, you will be introduced to your project.
`Volunteers occupy a single room in a shared, well furnished apartment that is quite comfortable. The apartment has good facilities and a fully functional kitchen, where volunteers can cook their own meals.
During your free time and on weekends, Valencia, rich with culture, heritage, and natural beauty, will beckon you to explore one of its beaches, the futuristic city of Arts and Science, and the old maritime quarter of El Cabanyal. Weekend getaways are easily had by train or bus to Barcelona. An there’s always, the historic port city of Dénia, located halfway between Valencia and Alicante, to explore, if you love castles and museums. You will have access to a complete list of things to do in Spain while volunteering.
How many can say their worksite gives them access to giant mountains and small hills, rivers, islands, wetlands, and beautiful forests? The Valencia region where you’ll be placed for the conservation program boasts of this, in addition to an extensive coastline replete with unique flora and fauna.
During this program, volunteers will explore and get to know different Spanish ecosystems and contribute in a practical way to the conservation of the Valencia Region environment. Volunteers will make a lasting impact on the environment through the following activities:
- Improving the quality of the water and the ecosystems through their work at the Albufera Natural Park and other wetlands
- Dunes and beaches conservation
- Turtle monitoring
- Restoring bird habitats, bird ringing
- Flora and fauna surveys and data collection
- Tree planting, forest fire prevention
- Eradicating invasive vegetation and general park maintenance
Last, but certainly not least, when volunteers take the time to educate the local community about what they can do to reduce their footprint, seeds, which bear fruit for generations to come, are planted.

When arriving at the center you are warmly welcomed and shown around. It is a lot to take in because the center is pretty big and there are a lot of animals.
Working hours are from 8 till 12 and half past 2 till 5, which is a good amount. Every day the animals need to be feed and there cages to be cleaned and when that is done we work on extra work, which is really diverse.
I have loved every day of my stay here and that is partly because of the animals and of the amazing people of yana cocha. +more

The trip was really awesome. It was my first time to go outside Europe and this project was the ideal thing to do for the first time! It is a good combination between different volunteering projects, travelling, and being with international people. The week in Mr. Lee's elephant village and the day in the Khao Yai national park were the absolute highlights for me. Beside that, we had a great tour guide in Kwang. She took care of us really well, arranged everything for us and did literally anything to help us. Big shout out to Kwang! I had an amazing time in Thailand.
Kwang is the best! She really took care of everything. When something went wrong with the beach extension, we had one day less at Koh Phangan, she kept us informed as good as she could.
I enjoyed all the projects actually. The childcare and elephants were the most exciting for me. Luckily we could stay another day in the elephant village, because me and two others decided not to go to Cambodia. It was a pity that the childcare was only two days, those kids were amazing. +more
