Animal Rescue Center and Zoo

San Jose, Costa Rica Wildlife & Environmental Conservation

Program

Description

If you like reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds and are also interested in preserving the environment, you will be perfect for this program. You will be helping out at and supporting a local animal shelter. This shelter not only takes in homeless animals, but also wild animals which are in a bad condition of any kind and aims at releasing them back into the wild as soon as they are healthy and well again.

This type of volunteering is perfect for adult volunteers who want help for a longer time. The volunteer can come every day he or she wants within the hole month. It is also necessary always to assist in the shelter shirt and respect the conditions of volunteering. Furthermore, our programs are family friendly and we love to welcome families with little children.

In addition to the care-taking of the animals, volunteers help us welcoming visitors at the entrance, explaining our goals and answering any questions that the visitors may have about the shelter or its resident animals. Learning about wildlife management will grow as the volunteer spend more days in the shelter, from positive interaction with animals to good diet and reproduction.

Our main goal at the end of the day will always be to take care of wild animals and free them back to nature where they belong.

Impact

Tasks that may seem miniscule or “too small to make a difference” actually have the opposite effect. Volunteers help improve areas around the world by completing any and every task, from mending fences and picking up trash to painting a community building or filling a classroom with necessary supplies. How volunteers make a difference is by recognizing no task is too small or insignificant.

Field conditions

As a volunteer you can expect the following daily responsibilities:
Interacting with visitors
Maintenance of animal enclosures
answer basic questions about animals
training of wild resident animals that are in the shelter.
Cleaning the cages.
Preparation of diets.
and many other things!
